The Day Outdoor Media Drove Twitter Follows

So just how did Ashton Kutcher become the first Twitter user to hit 1,000,000 followers?  Especially with so many coming in the last 24 hours?

Would you believe he used traditional media?  And we're not talking about the Oprah appearance today.

Here's a photo, taken by ND&P's Whitney Pratt, of a digital billboard in Roanoke, VA (at least two in Roanoke were showing this ad):

 

Ad Age reports that Lamar donated the board space quickly to help drive his traffic up, employing over 1,100 digital ad spaces across the country.  They donated the space not for some love of celebrity, or Ashton's odd Tweets to wife Demi Moore, but because if he won he'd be donating to African malaria relief.
